Welcome to the house

This is the beginning, so it makes sense to introduce the main character, right? Normally that would start with a name, maybe a description? But I'm not going to start there. I'm going to start with the important things.

  • I am a writer, and I love to write cosmic horror.

  • I am a journaler and stationery addict and I have many pens, washi tapes, stickers and notebooks (too many notebooks, if I'm honest). I will post about my journals on here, as they are key to my creative practice.

  • I am a lifelong learner and I love to learn more about all sorts of things, but especially writing and the the themes I tend to write about - cults, apocalyptic thinking, technology, isolation, the environment, horror.

  • I am a creative person and I like to draw, paint and do all sorts of other creative things.

  • I am a reader and I eat books. I particularly read horror and fantasy, but if I listed the books that impacted me most, you'd also find classics, poetry, science fiction, critical theory, psychology and philosophy on that list.

The house has rooms for all these things. And it wants you to come in.

Every month you will find a new room in the house with a new creative challenge. There will be at least one room every month. Sometimes there will be more than one. These are challenges I am setting for myself, but I invite everyone to join me (and feel free to suggest ideas).

The house is ever-expanding, and each room will be archived. If you don't like any of the challenges for the month, feel free to go back and try a different one.

Challenges will include:

  • Prompts

  • Taking part in activities like NaNoWriMo or Mermay

  • A self-study writing curriculum I am developing

  • Various ways to fill the well of creativity
